Mrs. Linsky's 5th Graders
Hey Dennis, Candace, DaWaun, Halley, Deandre, and others!
This is Stephen King, Lead Singer of Living Proof.
You guys had some great questions.
I'm going to try my best to answer the best ones for you.
So here goes..........
Living Proof needs your help!!!!
We have a bit of writers block, and we want your class to help. Could you guys write 16 lines of lyrics for me? Every two lines has to rhyme. And the song has to be about having fun! If yall can do that Mrs. Linsky will send me your lyrics and Living Proof will record the song! | Candace asked: "Can you tell us how did the band get together and where did you meet?" Well Candace, about 6 years ago I answered an ad in the local paper for a new start-up band looking for a singer. When I talked on the phone to these guys they suggested I learn a song to audition with called "Street of Dreams" written by an excellent band called Rainbow. And they learned a song called "Selling the Drama" by a band called Live for me. I then went to the practice space which was in the drummer's basement and auditioned for them. They seemed to like me because I then joined the band as their singer. Dennis asked: "How many songs have you written and what was your first song?" Wow Dennis, this is kind of complicated. I wrote "Hometown America" before I joined the band. I actually sent them a demo of "Hometown America" as part of my audition process. When we actually were a full band with me included, the first song we wrote was called "The Fool". Which is one of the songs you can hear on the webpage. But Living Proof adopted "Hometown America" and we did our version of it as a band. As far as how many songs have we written I honestly don't know. Songs come and go, and only the best ones stick around. So I'm guessing as a band we've written somewhere betweeen 50-60 songs over the years. But only about 20 fully worked and finished songs.
DeAndre asked: "How did you get on a CD?" This is cool question my friend. Living Proof pooled our money and we bought time in a recording studio here in Columbia. It is called "Sound Lab" and it's run by a man named Bob. On the given day the band set up their instruments in the recording studio. Bob worked the controls to help us get the studio quality recordings of our songs that you hear on the CD. When you're in the studio it's kind of cool cause you can go back and fix mistakes, rerecord things, or record multiple things where you usually only hear one instrument. And their is no background noise like you hear at live concerts. But the coolest thing of all is that most bands spend weeks in the studio. Getting things exactly right over a long period of time. What you hear with Living Proof's CD we recorded in one day!!! Yes that's right, one day! So that shows you the calibur of talent in the band to be able to do it all in one day!
DaWaun asked: "How did you find your members and is it hard to work together?" Well DaWaun over the years the membership of Living Proof has changed multiple times. People join and leave the band due to circumstances in their lives that forces them to make decisions they would rather not make. Such as money problems, relationships issues, and health concerns. But the good news is that we are all still friends with everyone who has been a member or even tried out for the band. The original drummer was Carl Fogle but for the last year our drummer was Rodney Smith. Tiny Hicks the original guitarist left the band for awhile and came back. And we've had lots of auditions and people who didn't work out inbetween. But the core group of guys have always had great chemistry in writing songs. And it's not hard for us to work together because we are great freinds. And to tell you the truth when you have to replace people sometimes it's hard to find the same chemistry as the original group who founded and started the band and wrote most of the songs.
Halley asked: "Where do you practice?" Okay Halley, we have practiced in many different places. We strarted out in Carl Fogle's basement. He has a huge sound proof space down there so it was perfect for us. The hardest part was lugging all that equipment up and down a flight of stairs every time we had a gig. We called those stairs the "Stairwell of Pain"! lol But as the years progressed we got better and lighter equipment and sometimes we practiced at other band member's houses. Then Carl had to leave the band and so our next real "homebase" if you will was the living room of Tiny Hicks. Tiny and his wife Jen were kind enough to allow the band to setup in the Living Room and use their main room in their house for the band! How awesome is that?

Well I hope I answered most of your questions guys! Thank you so much for your wonderful letters. Living Proof is proud to have fans like you guys!!! And remember all of Living Proof's musicians started playing music in school. In the next few years you guys will probably have the option to join your school's band, orchestra, or chorus! I highly recommend you do this because then you will learn if music is for you! And if it is it will bring you one step closer to being a rockstar!
Rock on my future musicians!
